Visit of the representants of Habitat from Warsaw and Bratyslava to Gdańsk 14.07.2010

On the 14th of July Gdańs was visited by the representants of our organization from Bratyslava and Warsaw. The first point of the trip, just after reaching Trojmiasto with the train, was a visit to Sobieszewo where stands the hostel „ We create our own place” for people after mental crisis, where have moved the first inhabitants. Our gests could personally see the renovated building and hear about the plans for future cooperation with Hope for Family Association.

Being on the Sobieszewska Island, visitants couldn't resist the beautiful beach. So, visit t the hostel was followed with a short break nearby the water, which in such heat occured to be a perfect way to regenerate powers and prepare for the rest of the day. Other thing that the gests could not miss were the local cuisine specialities, that was fresh fish for lunch.

Leaving Sobieszewo, we moved to the center of Gdansk, where is situated the place of a recent Habitat's project. It involves renovation and adaptation of a formem police station for the use of a tourist hostel (more information about the Art Hostel project on our web site). Our gests were pleaseed to see the place and the potencial of the prepared project.

Next stop on the way was at the „Habitat for Humanity Gdańsk” office. There, in a less hot atmosphere, the representants from Bratyslava, Warsaw and Gdańsk could discuss the current issues important for Habitat, such as the budget and the new politics implementaion process. Late in the afternoon, meeting of the board took place, however our gests soon had to leave for the train back to Warsaw, and the one day visit came to the end. It was a time filled with work in the first place, but also providing almost touristic attractions for the visitors, who rarely have accation to come to the seeside. We look forward to next visits!

Holidays are a time of changes and new ideas – also in the Habitat. This month joined us new volunteers, who want to support our efforts with their fresh minds. Full of energy to work, they immediately became involved in ongoing projects. We are glad, that Habitat for Humanity is an organization, which is attractive to young people, who find time for voluntary work, despite being concerned with different activities every day.

„We helped them move in” - celebration closing the project 25.05.2010

Today the Rabiega House has been dedicated to the family. Celebration gathered members of the companies engaded in the project, who made the renovation possible. Certificates and small gifts were given to thank all the sponsors. The meeting gave chance to summarize the project and the common work. The celebration was accompanied by entertainment for the children and refreshments for the gest. A special moment was the performance of the 17 year old Edyta Rabiega, who sang well known Polish songs.

We are satisfied with the results of the works, which have been conducted with our support, and we wish many happy moments to Rabiega family in their new home!
